As usual, Jack_sback, I agree, and since TAIC loathe the only couple I care about, I want them all gone, pronto! Like every other Lane fan, I am ecstatic that CK and DG are on the much deserved front burner, and, I have enjoyed speculating the potential of their s/l, until it became clear where it’s going. I’m not an alarmist, but I thinkit’s fair to say it will SUCK ROYALLY, if Lily get’s stuck in a s/l that will make her unable to have children or the de-Chancellorization of Cane. Personally, I would prefer that the Ashby’s not have children so soon, but, if TPTB go the baron route, it doesn’t take a psychologist to deduce the rationale behind the writing. What irritates me more is that the wedding seems to have been a diversion. I think they seriously expected the “Wag the dog” tactic to work on everyone. I never really believed they would ever give Cane to Lily unless they reduced his status, they would never put her in the big house for fear of repercussion (that position belongs exclusively to MAB’s redeemed psycho pet). It appears the closest they are willing to go is to have Neil become the phantom CEO, sprinkling a little diversity into GC’s elite by allowing his talentless, over-acting, sidekick to tag along. These guys are just unbelievable .
Billy’s baby incubator is in almost every episode, and her angst involves, justifying every past and current action to keep the SPAWN heir apparent front and center. Yet they turn Lily into a typical 60’s wife whose only goal in life is conceiving a child to make Cane happy, and it makes me want to hurl, because that means she’ll be like every other twit on the show, instead of the self possessed character she has always been until now. They **** on Lily and call it rain over and over again, and it boggles the mind that I continue to hold out hope that this character will receive something other than disparate treatment.
My frustration isn’t about Lily, or even Neil, Fez and Estella’s screwed up s/l, it’s about putting as much thought into the development of these characters as the pigment challenged ones. As ludicrous as the other storylines are, at least it’s clear they’ve been given some thought, even if they aren’t very creative, as opposed to the crap that is written for the aforementioned characters. I am so sick of the “scraps on the back porch/throw them a bone (courtesy of Boots),” “they should shut up and just be happy we put them on the screen at all,” mentality of TAIC. Well, I’m not happy, and I’m only one person, but I have no problem calling a spade a spade. The character of Chloe is useless, yet she has been shoved down our throats and sewn into the fabric of this show, in an effort to turn a sow’s ear into a silk purse, and continue to make the Lily character a substandard s/l drone, that appeal to, what they consider, the mass. Well, I’m a proud, card carrying outlier in their consensus analysis that seem to drive these stupid storylines for minorities - doesn’t change things, I know, especially when there are resentful morons out there like Nelson Branco, who hates CK/LW because when it comes to DG/CA, she is in a position he can only fantasize about.
Normally, the other storylines are so ridiculous I don’t bother criticizing - I can only tolerate the show when Lane is on, Lane scenes only. However, I do scan recaps and message boards, and what really flipped my switch is the sanction of Mrs. Abbott going ape sh*t when Billy called her girl, reminding him that she was not just some girl, but his WIFE. Regardless of what TAIC think, the viewer is smart enough to know that sloppy seconds available on demand and blackmail marriages, does not a real wife make. News flash writing team, try as you might to clean up her image, NO ONE will forget that Billy was blackmailed and manipulated into marriage, even if you manage to garner a modicum of sympathy for the character.
Another scary thing TPTB does, that they apparently think is adorable, is have that whack-job send subliminal messages to that spawn of hers, by talking over her sick little plans to it, guaranteeing it will grow up with an equally pathetically askew value system.
Unfortunately I don’t see MAB leaving before turning Y&R into Guiding Light, 2.0, which is where it’s headed as far as I’m concerned. I used to love GL, and put up with a lot of awful storylines until I could no longer take being bombarded with Josh and Cassie – even Reva couldn’t keep me tuned in, and I loved her character.
